Months ago I pre-ordered Bandai-Spirits Gundam Figure-rise Standard Ayame. Seen below.
Now, I knew I was ordering a model and not a complete figure, but I was not prepared for what showed up.
On the plus side this figure did only cost $25. Compared to a Figma or SH Figuarts which on average runs $70-$90. The downside is I found this many parts to be very over whelming. Even now I’ve only just assembled one head (the set included two with four faces) and one arm. The head really made me nervous because of the eyes.
I hate water decals and stickers. I have steady hands, but not precise ones. Maybe it’s a lack of attention to detail, but I just can’t get stickers perfect. I thought it was a little interesting that they included eyes without eye lashes just incase you wanted to paint them yourself. That’s literally what the instruction said.
I also learned the hard way that you can only trim the nubs off. You can’t sand as final paint has been applied. I learned this on one of her cuffs, so not the end of the world but still sucks.
Having just barely started I can’t say for sure if this is the first or only model type figure I’m going to order. While it’s fun to see the figure’s body and joints come together, it’s still a lot of work for what I feel like in the end is going to look like a cheap figure. Also from experience I know models fall apart over time. The Gundam models I did in High School now loose a arm if you look to hard at them. I guess we’ll see. Below is a final image of what the final figure should (fingers crossed) look like. I’ll try to put up a post with my final product and thoughts.
Thanks for looking.
