Sea of Inevitability

Honestly while the above scenario did cross my mind, I thought Billy and I we’re the model of crew mates. Which is a good thing cause one weekend in and I can tell you that communication is everything in Sea of Thieves.

I logged a good 12+ hours in the Beta this weekend and after it closed I thought I couldn’t wait until the actual 3/20 release date. My concerns though started a couple hours after that first sign of withdraw. I was casually thinking about what my plan of attack would be upon getting the full game. “Just more sailing, fighting, and treasure hunting, of course” I thought to myself. This immediately led me to the question of how many times can I do the same thing and it still be worth it? Now I know there are three whopping different kinds of missions and lots to explore, but the essence of the game is manning the ship. So how many trips until sailing this boat for 5-7 min between islands feels like a real chore? Perhaps I’m being too harsh as everything gets old after awhile. And there is a lot of good here. I love that the game is so skill based. You won’t lose a sea battle or a pistol dual to someone who is a higher level or out spent you. You will only lose to a better pirate. That is pretty exciting, and I say that as someone who got their ass kicked in the Beta. I clearly need more practice with the fighting system. I never blocked and only learned of the “heavy“ sword attack on the last day. Of course is it just me of did everyone rock the blunderbuss?

I don’t normally notice graphics. One reason I love playing games with my friend Sean, is that no matter how deep we are into a fire fight in Destiny he’ll stop and say something like “My god, did you look over this cliff the view is breath taking!”. And after I respawn I will take a moment to see what he is talking about. He is going to love this game, part of the gameplay is figuring out where you are sailing to; there are no waypoints to blindly follow. So you can’t help but take in how detailed and beautiful everything is.

In summary, fun to play, fun to look at, worried about longevity, and you can get so drunk you vomit.

P.S. – I heard a rumor if you vomit into a bucket you can later throw it on an enemy. Didn’t get a chance to confirm but sounds hilarious.
