I never played DnD as a kid, for no other reason than videogames took up most my game time. Videogames always seemed more approachable because you don’t have to remember all the rules, the game simply does or does not allow things. Later in life though I gave DND a try and it was more than a little frustrating.
When I roll a character I have a problem of not embracing the fantasy aspect of the game. My character is a lot like me; less charming than he thinks, bad to have in a fight, and always mildly confused on what to do next. Not this time though, I got a little help creating my character from the guys on @cardshoptalk and I rolled an easy to play badass. I say this to encourage new player or old players in a slump to reach out and get a little help with the more difficult parts of the game.
There are a ton of resources out there like local card shops, adventure leagues, Reddit and so on that can make the game a ton easier and more enjoyable. Also be sure to get the people at the table to help you out, first it makes things easier on you, and second it helps them be a little more invested in your character, which may help out in tight spot. I write this because 8-but is about to start streaming a new campaign and we not only want you to watch but also to start your own and share your characters and stories with us. Keep an eye out for a new 5e campaign and some more post with helpful tips.
